Judy Domeny is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable performer of traditional folk music. She sings from her heart with a voice that is strong and clear and accompanies herself on an acoustic guitar played in both fingerpicking and flatpicking styles. Judy grew up on a farm near Rogersville, Missouri. As a child she fell in love with folk music when she discovered the rich stories and legends within the songs. Judy first began performing at the age of 12 and has since traveled extensively throughout the nation performing in festivals, presenting concerts and singing for people of all ages.Judy's extensive repertoire includes songs that reflect three major influences: traditional songs from Missouri and the Ozarks, ancient musical stories from the British Isles, and traditional and contemporary folk music from throughout America. While some of Judy's songs date as far back as the 1300's, the majority of her repertoire dates from the mid-1800's to the early 1900's. Judy sings the stories of America's early pioneers and their ancestors. She performs a combination of humorous songs, ballads, familiar tunes and uncommon songs. Within her music, stories of kings and queens, Indian maidens, sailing ships, cowboys and Civil War battles come to life. She brings alive the trials and joys of pioneer life, the stories of true and faithful lovers, of humorous escapades, religious hope, ghostly happenings and long-ago train wrecks. These are hand-me-down songs of American living that range from spellbinding murder stories to the beauty that can be found in everyday life. These songs give audiences an unforgettably enjoyable glimpse into the past that makes up our American heritage. Judy performs in many varied settings: concert halls, music festivals, conventions, universities, libraries, national and state parks, folklore and historical societies, and on radio and television. She tailors her performances to each audience and can present shows for all age groups from children to senior citizens. Besides performing traditional music, Judy teaches elementary art in Willard, Missouri, and works part-time as an auctioneer. Judy lives at the family farm near Rogersville, with her husband David Bowen. There they tend to the cattle, horses and goats. |
